The role of PR at a small club with a big heart in the community is very varied and challenging. U's P.R. Manager Graham Eales gives an insight into the wide variety of tasks and events he is involved with, both at the club and in the wider community.

There are some elements of routine associated with games both home and away, weekly media calls, programme deadlines, charity requests and management meetings. Often we are reacting to issues as they crop up but increasingly we are being proactive as we try to promote the Club in the wider Cambridge community.

Since the appointment of John and Dale we are have become more proactive, boosted our effort, and involved the whole club in a 'United Endeavour' to enhance the Club's profile The following snapshots from the past few days give a glimpse into my personal role in PR and reflect some of the thinking which underpins our current Practice.

Race Day

1 The recent CUFC Race Day at Huntingdon went very well and working closely with Carla and Lisa emphasises the close partnership between PR and Commercial

2 Some 50 Stewards and Tea Bar staff attended an evening training session with Ian Darler and Julie Wright. Major forthcoming story for this web site and 'Amber and Black', and a chance to support Ian and Julie

3 . Before all home games I help Commercial with a Sponsors' Quiz which is CUFC related entertainment and banter for them and a context for me to relate with sponsors

4 At half time I try to to keep fans informed of latest developments and also acknowledge some really good friends and supporters of CUFC

5 Hosting the Post Match Presentation with Carla is another key opportunity to relate with sponsors and VIP's

6 First Media Call on the Road at home shirt Sponsor Quicksilver Messenger Service. John Taylor is interviewed by Radio Cambs, CEN, Q103 and On the Spot. Quicksilvers Ruth Le Vesconte looks on.

7 I joined Dr Little and JT at St Catherines College to pursue an improving CUFC/Cambridge University connection

8 When JT was treated to a massage at Green as part of ITV Sports Football Second programme, Becky and I were also there to cover the event for Amber and Black

9 JT joined me at a recent evening meeting of Cambridge PE Teachers to outline the Season Of Promise free seat distribution and it really re-inforced the message that we are keen to co-operate with local schools
