Board Statement

Posted on: Mon 18 Dec 2006

The Cambridge United Board of Directors has issued a statement regarding Saturday's defeat at Histon.

United lost 5-0 to Histon in the FA Trophy first round tie, prompting many of United's supporters to leave before the final whistle and manager Jimmy Quinn to describe it as "the most embarrassing result I've had a manager".

The statement from the Board of Directors reads as follows:

Our display at the Glassworld Stadium on Saturday was very poor and one which we cannot defend. This is not to take anything away from Histon, who deserved their victory, and who we wish well in the Trophy.

Too many players underperformed and did not appear to have the passion and commitment to match their counterparts.

We expect the team to respond positively to the criticisms made of them and hope that we will look back upon this time as the season's low point.

Cambridge United are very fortunate to have such a loyal and understanding fanbase and the Board of Directors want the supporters to know that we share their disappointment and appreciate their patience.

United's next match is on Tuesday evening at home to Stafford Rangers, kick off 7.45pm.
