CFU Statement

Posted on: Mon 04 Sep 2006

Cambridge Fans UnitedCambridge Fans United would like to thank Nick Pomery for everything he has done for Cambridge United and CFU during the past six years. Without him there would be no club for us to support.

Cambridge United supporters owe him a great deal and the club will be weaker for his absence from the boardroom.

Without his contribution we would now be playing on Coldhams Common. We can all have opinions and matches to watch because of his work.

CFU Chairman Dave Matthew-Jones said, "Without his dedication and drive, CFU would never have achieved what it has. Nick came onto the Board at a very difficult time.

Nick Pomery"Huge losses had been allowed to mount up over the years. These debts had resulted in the loss of the Abbey Stadium freehold and the need to pay £200,000 annual rent to Bideawhile. This nearly killed the Club and we are grateful for his efforts in getting us through the period of Administration. He leaves the club in a stronger and much more stable position than when he joined.

He continued, "Although there are now many people volunteering their time and skills to keep the club functioning, I think it is unlikely that we will ever find another Nick Pomery. We wish him and his family every happiness and look forward to his future visits to the club "

Nick, Brian Attmore and Dave Matthew-Jones started CFU in 2000 following the launch of Supporters Direct. It has grown to become the club's second largest shareholder and has been instrumental in the club's recent survival. Brian Attmore is the supporters' director on the board.

CFU would also like to thank Rob Newman for all his hard work and commitment to the club since joining in December 2004 to help Ricky Duncan during his period as caretaker manger.

His tireless work and dedication enabled the club to get through our first season in the Conference. To shape a team for last season when there were only four contracted players days before the season began was exceptional. It is sad that this could not have continued into the current season.

We would also like to thank Tony Spearing.

The decision the board now needs to make concerning the next manager is the most important in the club's history. We can not afford failure. We need someone who will take the club back into the League at the earliest possible time.
