Andy Duncan with club secretary Matt Wild
Andy Duncan has signed a new one year contract with Cambridge United.
The U's defender returned from a break in his native North East to put pen to paper at the club this morning, and we will bring you a full interview with Andy later today.
For manager Rob Newman, Andy's signature could be the first of several this week as Mark Peters and Courtney Pitt are also believed to be close to penning new deals and talks with several prospective new signings continue.
"Mark Peters and hopefully Courtney Pitt are both close to signing and if we get those deals tied up along with Andy then that's testament to the way the club is going at the moment," Newman told cambridgeunited.com
"They know what we achieved last year and they feel the club is going forward, and if they didn't feel that then they probably wouldn't have signed. So I'm pleased so get Andy on board and hopefully to get Mark and Courtney on board in the next couple of days,
"It will mean we've kept the people from last year who performed well and if we can get the additions in as well then hopefully we can become quite a force," he added.
Newman spent Monday and Tuesday in talks with several players, including former loanee Matt Bloomer who was released by Lincoln City last week, a goalkeeper and some strikers, and he hopes to have at least two deals completed by the end of the week.
