Adam Davies Update

Within four hours of being stretchered from the Abbey Stadium pitch during last night's match, U's defender Adam Davies was cleared to leave hospital.
Davies was hit in the throat by the ball with a Exeter player's boot behind it and went down with breathing difficulties. The defender, who turned 19 last week, needed over 15 minutes of treatment on the pitch by the club physio, the club doctor and medical personnel before he was stretchered from the pitch and taken to Addenbrooke's hospital.
Rob Newman was able to report that Davies was conscious as he left the ground for the hospital last night, and club physio Greg Reid filled in the details at about 00:30 as he left the hospital.
"He's made a good recovery," he told cambridgeunited.com "He's just had a C.T. scan at Addenbrooke's, which allows them to check his brain for bleeding and bruising and he's all clear. They've kept him in for observation but they're preparing to let him go home now."
Recalling the scene that greeted him when he ran onto the pitch after Davies stayed down following his clash with Exeter sub Mackie, Greg continued, "Adam was deeply unconscious, he was bleeding from the mouth, and his airway was blocked so it was a medical emergency.
"I concentrated on maintaining his airway and the doctors stabilised him and basically saved his life. It was a traumatic time and the paramedic confirmed that it was life-threatening, but thankfully he's walking away a few hours later with just a few broken teeth and a heck of a black eye.
"It was a great team effort," added Greg. "You train and prepare for situations like this while hoping it will never happen, and there's a lot of good work behind the scenes. I thank God that if something like this was going to happen then it happened at our home ground, where we have such a good team and expertise and facilities on hand."
Adam will now rest quietly at home for the next few days and next week Greg will make an appointment for him to see a neurosurgeon.
"He won't be able to return to training until he's been assessed by a neurosurgeon," he confirmed, "and that won't be until next week."
We all wish Adam a very speedy recovery.
