Tann Joins Gravesend

Posted on: Thu 03 Nov 2005

Former U's defender Adam Tann has signed for Conference rivals Gravesend & Northfleet.

The news comes as a surprise because when United's offer of a new contract was rejected in the summer Tann's agent Richard Cody stated that his client did not want to play in the Conference.

Adam Tann celebratesThe 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at the Abbey Stadium to establish himself as a popular and versatile first team regular.

He was one of just three players to be offered new contracts at the end of last season but the offer was rejected and at first Tann looked set to remain in League football, having trials at Reading and Ipswich Town.

However, a move was not forthcoming and Cody stated that United's insistence on compensation for releasing the registration of the 23-year-old was an obstacle to him finding a new club.

Last month it was agreed that the club would waive its claim to initial compensation for Tann, although Commercial Director Justyn Medd told disgruntled supporters at the Fans Forum that the club hoped to secure future compensation.

Tann has now surprised everyone by signing for a club at the same level as United, where he will be managed by another former U's defender, Liam Daish. He is set to make his debut in their match tomorrow against Stevenage Borough.
