Cambridge 'Til I Die - Storytelling & Writing Sessions

Posted on: Wed 08 Sep 2010

As part of the much publicised 'Cambridge 'til I Die' book project, which is now just weeks away from launch, Cambridge Fans United in conjunction with the National Literacy Trust and Legends Publishing are pleased to confirm that two storytelling and writing sessions are to be held at the Cambridge United Learning Centre on Wednesday 15th September and Thursday 16th September.

Since the project got underway in June, the response from our supporters and the media alike has been overwhelming. Fans were prompted to forward their memories of following the U's, whether it be how their association with the club was first borne, or simply a story related to a particular match or event. With an eclectic mix of stories flooding in from supporters both young and old, launch of the full-colour publication on 16th October is now much anticipated. However, there is always room for another good story and, whether heartfelt or amusing, fans will now have a last chance to contribute to the book before the 16 September deadline, by way of the storytelling and writing sessions.

The first of these two days, 15th September will be reserved for invited schools and Cambridge United scholars, whilst the following day is open to all CUFC supporters and local groups. We will also be welcoming Martin Ling and some of the players to what will be an enjoyable, community related event.

CFU member Doug Shulman, who has overseen the project with CFU board member Kevin Robson, explains, "The Cambridge 'Til I Die project, which has been financed by the National Literacy Trust, the Arts Council England, the Football Foundation and the Professional Footballers' Association, is delivered with the aim of increasing self-confidence and literacy skills for all. The story telling and writing sessions are targeted at helping those who will gain the most from developing these skills, and at the same time those fans will get the chance to see their story in print and be a part of United's history. Furthermore, we are confident that both Cambridge Fans United and Cambridge United will benefit from the project, in helping to engage often hard-to-reach members of the local community in a meaningful and tangible way."

Led by professionals from the National Literacy Trust, Legends Publishing and the Cambridge United Learning Centre, the sessions will help supporters, school children, players, coaches, scholars and club staff receive specialist, fun training in the art of storytelling and writing. Some may perceive writing as being beyond them, so please do take advantage of the chance to attend these sessions and talk about your passion for Cambridge United.

The session reserved for school children and CUFC scholars on Wednesday 15th September will run from 10.00am - 12.00pm and 1.00 - 4.00pm. Please contact Helen Paterson at the Cambridge Learning Centre if you are interested in attending on this particular day. helen.pfs@cambridge-united.co.uk The open session for supporters and local groups on Thursday 16th September will run from 10.00am - 12.00pm and 1.00pm - 4.00 pm. If you would like to attend then please just turn up between these times.

If you would like further details on either of the sessions please contact Doug Shulman at douglas.shulman@ntlworld.com

Ridgeons Timber & Builders Merchants have generously sponsored the project, and remain committed to working with both Cambridge Fans United, the club and the local community.

Please support the Cambridge 'Til I Die project by buying the book. The aim is twofold: 1) to produce a first class product that is a unique collection of fans CUFC memories throughout the decades, and 2) to raise a significant sum which CFU can put to good use helping CUFC.

This exciting book, a must read for all fans, will be available from 16th October, priced just £10 (plus P&P if applicable). Stock will be limited but you can place your order now at the CFU Caravan on match days.
