Cambridge Fans United (CFU) can proudly reveal that Steve Claridge has been taking a great interest in the Cambridge 'Til I Die book project for the last 2-3 months. He has discussed the book with Fans Elected Director, Colin Proctor and CFU Trust Board Member, Kevin Robson, on several occasions since. Steve kindly agreed to write the book's intro and, true to his word, this has now been received.

In it he speaks of his time at Cambridge United as "a deeply treasured one" and thanks U's fans for the wonderful reception he received when coming back to the Abbey. Steve is of course one of United's goalscoring 'legends' and is fondly remembered by the Abbey faithful.

It is pretty obvious when speaking to Steve just what a nice guy he is and what an impact Cambridge United has had on his life. It is also evident from CFU's conversations that Steve still feels passion for the U's - he was meticulous about the wording of the intro to the point where it was written and complete, but he still wanted to call back and make sure it was word perfect! In a world where we are often happy to point the finger at footballers' greed and huge Premiership salaries, it is refreshing to find that successful ex-players still care about Cambridge United long after they've moved onto bigger and 'better' things.

Steve has done this out of the generosity of his heart and CFU would like to thank him for his time, interest and input into the project. As he says in his intro: "All of us, whether we are players or fans, will have treasured memories of our Football Club. These memories may be as individual as our opinions on the game, but each one is as important as the next. For this reason I'm sure Cambridge 'Til I Die will strike a chord with everyone who reads it. Every die-hard Cambridge United fan should buy a copy of this book."
