Cambridge United striker Danny Wright spoke to cambridgeunited.com reporter Dave Gray following last nights 1-1 draw at Tamworth. His comments are below:
"As a striker it's always nice to get off the mark and I think I needed the goal but if you would have asked me before the game if I would take a point and scoring or three points and not hitting the net, I'd would have taken the three points for the team every time.
"I know it was said on Saturday but tonight was far more frustrating for all of us. It was the first time this season that we have taken the lead and we really should have pushed on from the goal and killed Tamworth off. Looking back we feel that we deserved far more out of tonight's performance as we can say from what we have got from all the games we have played this season. I'm really trying to look for a few positives and you can say, yes it's draw away from home but we know when the final whistle blew it should have been more and that hurts.
"To be fair to them Tamworth will trouble teams this year that was shown by the way they created their headed chance in the first half. It was a good passing move that was met with a great header but I doubt that you'll find anyone who saw Simon Brown's save that doesn't think it was world class.
"To be honest I should have made it one nil just after then, I 'm disappointed at not tucking that away, yes their player has put me off balance but that's no excuse as I've missed a good chance that I would normally expect to put away. Still, it was great to be able to put that right at the other end in front of our fans but I have to give all the credit to Simon Russell who made it easy with one of those crosses that as a striker you just love. There is no work involved you just have to nod it in.
"We now have to push on to Saturday it's no good stating that we are playing well it's the results that matter. If we win one ugly and get ruthless in doing so then so be it. If we play well all season and just draw games it won't be good enough you don't get into the play-offs by drawing games and the play-offs is where we want to be come April. So we need to put that right, six points over the holiday weekend will answer that and that's just what we as a team aim to deliver."
