Fans Trust welcomes City Council involvement in ground plans

Cambridge Fans United has welcomed the news that Cambridge City Council will be involved in the project group which has been set up to steer Grosvenor Developments plans to find a site for and build a new stadium for Cambridge United. At a meeting for fans and local residents held last week it was revealed that the City Council had not taken up invitations to attend the group.

The Council has apologised for a breakdown in communication, which led to their absence from the meeting, but has now committed itself to playing a full part in the group.

Welcoming the announcement, CFU Chair, Dave Matthew-Jones, said "This is good news, because this project needs everyone who has an interest to be fully engaged in working together for the right outcome. We were very encouraged by the big turnout of fans and local people to the public meeting with Grosvenor and we are getting positive feedback from fans about it."

"Obviously, there are significant concerns about the prospect of leaving the Abbey Stadium and, in many ways, it is a step into the unknown and is slightly daunting. However, with the quality of the people involved and committed to making it work, and with all the local councils on board, as well as the club and the fans, we are looking at the future in a positive way."
