Programmed for Success

Posted on: Thu 03 Jun 2010

Cambridge United are delighted to announce their latest commercial contract will see a brand new Match Day Programme available to supporters for the 2010/11 season.

The sponsorship arrangement will see the logo of Archant's new weekly newspaper, "Cambridge First", appear on the back of the home and away shirt. In addition Archant Media will provide printing, production and publication of the Match Day Programme during the period of the sponsorship.

Gareth Baldwin, Commercial Consultant at the Club, told cambridgeunited.com, "This is a commercial partnership of mutual benefit. As with all our partners we need to build long term relationships which deliver benefits to both parties and we are all very excited about this partnership and look forward to exploring it's further potential."

Gareth went on, "We have seen the exciting new "Cambridge First" publication which came out this week and this is the name which will be displayed on the back of the shirts for the season."

The deal will see the U's receive all of the proceeds from sales of the Match Day Programme, which will be a 64-page full colour publication.

Speaking of the finances of the deal, General Manager Robert Smith expanded, "This is a really good agreement for the Club financially. Gareth and his commercial team should be congratulated as it's a multi-faceted deal which will benefit the Club in many ways.

"It will enable supporters to buy a programme in the knowledge every single penny will be coming to the Club."

Robert went on, "We have experienced considerable instability in terms of income from our programme in recent years and the commercial teams focus on the long term benefits from contracts is now starting to bear fruit. Every contract we enter into, every decision we make and everything we do now is done with the best interests of our customers, our fans and the Club in mind."

"The programme will be staying at the same price with a mixture of the popular features from the previous version as well as a host of new and exciting articles which we're confident the supporters will enjoy."

Paul Richardson, Editorial Director of Cambridge First, commented, "We are banking on the U's scoring lots of goals next season, so our brand gets seen everywhere - and we are confident they will!

"This relationship is typical of what we are trying to achieve in Cambridge; it is based on mutual benefit and working together for the long-term benefit of the City and its people. I hope this shows we are serious, we are committed and we are flexible in coming up with an arrangement that means the direct income from the programme sales goes to the club in a deal that works for both parties.

"We have a progressive, positive agenda and so does Cambridge United. It is a natural fit as far as we are concerned and we look forward to working with the club on many new ventures over the next few seasons, which we genuinely believe will be successful ones for the club and its supporters."

The programme will be available for supporters to view for the first home pre-season friendly of the season.
