Clutching the obligatory bottle of bubbly and also the new addition of the Man of the Match trophy, two-goal striker Danny Crow talked exclusively to cambridgeunited.com following United's two goal victory over Tamworth that bumps the U's unbeaten run to nine games.
"I've only got the champagne a couple of times in the past so it's nice to get the bottle but also to get the trophy as well. I'm just as happy that the team keep on winning games."
Reflecting on a mostly poor season results wise, the U's striker was quick to support Martin Ling's ability and faith in the team, and hailed Tamworth for their style of play.
"There was always the belief within the squad even when we were going through a tough time before Christmas. The gaffer always knew his plans would work and he's now being proved right. I honestly don't think we are currently playing the best. In fact I think we were playing better football during the losing streak before Christmas. Now I think we are more resolute, we have the ability to absorb pressure and then come up with the goals.
"You can see that Tamworth are a good side, they try to keep you at bay and it's not done by hoofing it. They like to pass the ball around and when they get a set piece they like to break up play and slow it down. So when we scored it made them open up and chase the game and I think from then we dominated. Once we got the second that was it, the games was ours."
Speaking on a personal note, Danny looked back to last season's performances and is grateful to the fans that kept faith in his goal-scoring ability.
"Before the start of the season, I wasn't only disappointed that we failed to get the Club up but personally I didn't feel I did myself justice. But this season to have eighteen goals already feels like I've gone someway to paying the fans back for their support.
"I set myself the target to get fifteen at the start of the year, mainly because Chris Holroyd was here and he was played as the main striker, so my job also involved helping to make chances for him. Now it seems everything is falling to me and I'm taking those opportunities. I think the players and the gaffer have believed in me and that belief has paid off."
Looking ahead to Saturday's home tie with Grays Danny is assuring the squad will not underestimate their ability despite currently sitting at the bottom of the table.
"Grays may be bottom but they will come here and give us a real game. Gavin Hoyte is there and if he plays he'll want to show us what he's all about. They only just got beaten by Stevenage and they did a job on us when we went to their place. But we are on this run, we will have the fans behind us and we have the belief to do the job against them and to take it on to Kidderminster next week."
Finally the U's striker commented on the Chester situation and the aim for the remaining games of the season, keen to work hard to keep the unbeaten run going.
"You never know what will happen. We could get the six points back and if that happens who is to say the play-offs aren't on for this year. We will go out to finish this season on a high by trying to win every game before April ends. We owe it to the fans."
