Having signed on loan from Bradford City to cover Robbie Wilmot's injury, Scott Neilson slotted into United's midfield for what was a hard earned three points at Barrow's Holker Street ground.

Speaking exclusively to cambridgeunited.com Scott expressed his pleasure, not only in his match-winning goal but also on the fulfillment of United's pre-match plans.

"You can't really have a better debut than getting the three points and scoring the winning goal. It wasn't the best of games but we came here with the game plan to stay solid, match them and nick a goal on the counter attack so in all fairness it worked well.

"Being a wide player and Barrow playing without width it makes it very difficult to have an impact on the game as you get drawn in to try and get the ball. The main thing was to stay solid and strong in defence and deal with any chances they created which we did."

Looking back on the goal that settled the match, Scott reflected on what goes through a player's mind in a one-on-one situation.

"Danny Crow played a great ball through for me to run on to and the defence opened up leaving me one-on-one with the keeper and then it is always the case of relaxing and making sure you hit the target. The pressure should all be on the keeper to make the save. The keeper committed himself early making it easier to pick my spot and tuck it away in the back of the net. They then put us under pressure for the last 15 minutes but I didn't really feel they looked like they would break us down."

Scott wished to heap some praise on the 140 hardy souls who had made the long trip to Cumbria to support the lads in Amber and Black.

"I've come down from Bradford and their travelling support is great but the fans who have made the journey - and it's a long one -  up from Cambridge were just superb today. The reaction when I went to celebrate the goal and at the end of the game showed just how much the win and the Club means to them."

Looking forward to the two matches United have this week it's obvious with his local connections which one Scott has his eyes on.

"Everyone seems to be a bit more confident now with the unbeaten run so we can take that to Kettering on Tuesday and of course the home game against Histon next week. I'd love to get one over them not only as I'm a Cambridge United player but also being ex-Cambridge City, I'd also like to do it for the folks at Milton Road as well."
