Bayliss: "Three Points They Didn't Deserve"

Posted on: Mon 08 Mar 2010

Barrow's joint manager Dave Bayliss cut a disappointed figure as he passed judgment on another case of dropped points at Holker Street.

"There wasn't much between the two sides out there today and I don't think either of the sides deserved to win the game. But we've got hit by a sucker punch after we've allowed the lad much too easy a run on goal and you can't give a player of his ability that.

"All Cambridge have had are two chances all game and I don't think Tim Deasy has had to make a save. They've come here with the intention to nick an ugly win and fair enough they've done it and got the three points that I don't think they deserved."

In a tight game of few chances Bayliss bemoaned some of his players decisions' after the defeat saw United climb above his side as they slid into the relegation places.

"The goal was the only difference between the two sides; our deliveries into the box were poor today. I've praised our wide players recently but even our set pieces were poor and didn't give enough for our players to run onto and attack. When you have the height advantage we had out there that isn't good enough.

"We didn't really get going, the pitch was bobbly and our decision making was poor when we tried to run the ball when it wasn't on to run with it. We should have been passing it and trying to turn them a little bit more. Last Saturday and Tuesday the decision-making was fantastic but only the lads who are out there can make those choices and they didn't make the right ones today."

Following a hostile crowd reaction to his introduction of former United favourite Lee McEvilly, Bayliss defended the substitution.

"We felt we had to change things so took Chadwick off to bring on Lee McEvilly who is a little bit more dominant in the air, it could have worked with Lee having a great chance going through and if he would've scored that we might well have gone on to win it."

Bayliss was also very blunt in his assessment could of winger Carlos Logan's two yellow cards which saw for the second match running United finish a game a man to the good.

"I'm not going to defend Carlos Logan for his red card; I can't say it wasn't deserved because both bookings fully were. He made two reckless tackles that left the referee with no choice and he had to go.

"The defeat isn't the end of the world; we've been beaten even though we should've got something out of the game. We have to move on, there are a lot of games to go so we have to remain upbeat and get on with the job in hand."
