Phillips: "We Were in Control"
The scorer of United's equaliser and a constant threat to The Don's backline heaped praise on the management team for the performance that ended United's long losing streak.
"The Manager and Paul Carden have put in loads of work with us in training, focusing on getting the ball forward as quickly as we can. That showed in the performance we gave for the first twenty minutes or so.
"To be out there as a striker was brilliant. The balls were coming in to Danny Crow and myself up front and then we were picking up the second balls putting Wimbledon under all kinds of pressure. It's something that hasn't happened in previous games and you could also sense it was good for the fans as well."
After such a good start to then let Wimbledon back into the match was disappointing but as Lee states more disappointing in the way it came about.
"That changed with the same thing that has happened all season. We gave away a sloppy goal and they were right back in the game. Although they then went ahead in the second half I didn't feel like we were going to get beaten. I felt even then we were in control of the game and even when Antonio Murray got red carded we increased our control and always looked like we would get back into it."
In what has been a frustrating season for the striker to be back in the starting line up as well as being on the score sheet came as a relief.
"I've been in and out of the side this season swapping places with Bees (Mark Beesley) but I've worked hard in training and I know how frustrating it has been for the fans seeing a striker who hasn't delivered for them.
"I also feel I have let myself down with injuries as well as not getting the goals I should be getting. But I now feel fitter, sharper than I have in all my time here. I'm doing extra training and the Manager has seen that and given me the chance to start today and hopefully I've repaid him with the equaliser."
The only dissapointment Lee had was the fact that all the hard work that the squad had put in on the training ground didn't result in the three points the performance merited.
"Towards the end of the game there was only one team that was going to win the game. We are a very fit team - Paul Carden works with us everyday installing the lessons that if we give the ball away we have to win it back. That goes from us at the front to the lads at the back. When we went down to ten men I thought the lads absolutely worked their socks off and it was unlucky to not get the winner right at the end."
But he states that even with only picking up a point from today's match the Club can take positives into next weeks game in deepest Gloucestershire.
"We have to take today's performance to Forest Green on Saturday. I hear people saying it's a relegation six-pointer, they are near the bottom of the league. We know we are capable of picking up the points we need to get us away from the drop zone and we need to make sure that starts with three points on Saturday."
