Dons Boss Disappointed with Point

Posted on: Mon 15 Feb 2010

AFC Wimbledon manager Terry Brown showed his annoyance that his side let a lead slip against a Cambridge side who had been reduced to ten men following Antonio Murray's sending off.

"That was a very disappointing display out there. To come away from here with a point just wasn't good enough. We had the game in our hands at 2-1 and the two goals we have given away were very poor goals to concede without a doubt.

"I have to say that today I thought James Pullen made a couple of good saves today prior to the handling error for Cambridge's first and I have to put the equaliser down to a goalkeeping error as well."

As well as praising the United team's performance the Don's boss scorned his own side's efforts.

"The start of the season a point would have been seen as a good result but on current form it can only be seen as two dropped. We played a side today that pre-match was devoid of any confidence but they have come out and really worked their socks off. I thought in particular Simon Russell was the best player on the pitch.

"Even when they went down to ten men, the crowd got behind them, which sometimes happen when you lose a man. That sending off certainly didn't do us any favours because that was about the first time the crowd got behind them all day.

"Realistically I shouldn't be talking about them and their crowd, we didn't perform today. Our defensive performances could have let them have three or four today that has to be sorted. But overall our total performance was below par there is no doubt about that."

Speaking exclusively cambridgeunited.com, Terry passed judgement on United's performance on the pitch, the support from the terraces and gave encouragement for United's remaining games in the Blue Square Premier League this season.

"To be fair your players have come out today fired up and were certainly the better side up to when you scored. You could have already had a couple by the time you scored that goal. From my point of view when you did score it was disappointing but from your point of view it came from decent pressure and was fully deserved.

"We then stepped it up a bit and got back in the game and you could tell at that point how anxious the crowd was and that was mirrored in your players. After we went two-one up and you having the man sent off I think everyone at your Club should be proud of the great resilience your players showed out there."

"The crowd then played their part in really getting behind the players today. In the run in Martin Ling and the players will need that, and the crowd can really play their part in getting behind him and the players - it's the most important thing that they can do on behalf of their Club.

"There are good players here that with a couple of wins under their belt and taking inspiration from today's performance they will prove they are more than good enough to fight their way to a mid table position and I wish everyone here all the best in doing that."
