New U's addition Simon Russell saw promise in his new club's performance, although it wasn't only the narrow defeat that frustrated him.

"I enjoyed watching the game as much I could but I'd rather be playing. Any player will tell you it's never good to watch a game that you could be playing in. As much as it's disappointing for the Club to lose but I think we dominated the majority of the game. I just think for all the possession we just didn't take our shots. York took theirs but that's football for you. Obviously it's easier to say that from the stand than when you are on the pitch. "

Speaking on the style of his former employees win it didn't really surprise him.

"No disrespect to York but I've watched a lot of them this season and the way today's game went seems to be the story of their season. You make your own luck and the luck has definitely been with them. Another deflected goal goes in and it's backs to the wall and another three points. They are very hard to beat and it showed in the work rate they put out, but we did everything but score and on another day we could have at least a point."

Simon's frustration at not being able to make his debut will have to continue for over another week due to the FA Trophy weekend coming up.

"I'm ready to play and I'd love to play on Tuesday. I'm not cup tied but obviously I'm not registered in time for the replay and with the blank weekend coming up it's been the story of my season - stop, start. But it will make me more focussed to be ready for Oxford away or the next round of the Trophy on Tuesday week. Last time I played was at the end of my loan spell at Tamworth on 12 December so I'll admit to lacking a bit of match practice but I'm sure training in the meantime with the lads will have me ready and I'll be able to show the fans what I can do."
