Cambridge United are confident Boxing Day's home tie with Stevenage Borough at the R Costings Abbey Stadium will go ahead as planned.

Stadium Manager Ian Darler has been working tirelessly over the past few days with his groundstaff and volunteers from Arthur Peacock & Son (pictured below) to clear ice and snow from the stands and entrance paths to the stadium to make a safe environment for Saturday's game.

Snow being cleared by hand

The heavy snow which has fallen over the last few days had been left on the pitch to insulate it from frost. Half of the snow has been removed today, leaving the other half on to protect the pitch from the frost forecast tonight. The remainder of the snow will be cleared on Christmas Day by Ian.

Milder temperatures are forecast for Christmas Day onwards, therefore the Club is optimistic that along with the assiduous work undertaken in recent days the game will be on.

Supporters are advised to check on the morning of the game on the website before setting off, as a pitch inspection may be required to confirm the game will be on.
