Phillips Ruled Out Until January
Lee Phillips will miss the four big games over Christmas and New Year after injuring a knee in training on Friday.
A scan on Monday revealed a posterior cruciate ligament injury that will rule him out for the next few weeks, which adds to a frustrating season that began on the sidelines after a medial ligament tear in the pre-season match against West Ham.
The 29-year-old has been limited to three starts so far by injury and the form of Chris Holroyd and Danny Crow, and now faces a spell of hard work in the treatment room and gym before he can return to action.
"There's good and bad news," Martin Ling told cambridgeunited.com. "The good news is that he doesn't need an operation, and the bad news is that he'll need extensive rehabilitation over a period of a few weeks before we see him playing again.
"It's disappointing for Lee because he's had a stop-start season so far with injuries, but where one door closes another one opens," he added.
"It's a chance for Adam Marriott to be part of the four man strike force and when he's had his opportunity this season he's taken it well."
The illness situation of last week has eased and Danny Potter is hopefully the last to shake off the effects of the bug.
Ling and reserve goalkeeper Laurie Walker have recovered but Potter was not 100% when he played on Saturday, so he was given two extra days off to get over it and is expected to return to training on Wednesday.
