Brian Saah scored his second game for Cambridge United to earn the U's a point in the rain and wind at Eastbourne on Saturday, but he knows United must stop conceding soft goals.
The home side led twice in the first half and United equalised twice through a Ben Austin own goal and Saah's goal but were unable to capitalise on their second half chances, including a one-on-one chance for Robbie Willmott in stoppage time.
"We were very disappointed to go behind twice because straight from the kick off we were the better team," said Saah, who will be 23 next week.
"They scored from their first chance, and defensively we weren't good enough for the second one. As a defender you look at any goals you concede and think that you can do better and both of their goals were preventable; we have to hold up our hands to that.
"But once again the lads have shown a great reaction and resilience to come back twice and to be honest we should have won it at the death when Robbie got clean through."
The match was played in driving rain and wind, but Brian added, "You can use the conditions as an excuse for the result but that wouldn't be fair. This was a game we should have won, especially with all the effort the lads put in and you can't knock them for that.

"We all worked hard and tried to do the right thing but in the end we were just unlucky not to get the win. In the second half we showed the quality we have at the club, especially in the attacking third, which you could see by the amount of chances we created.
"The break when the referee was injured cost us because at that point we had Eastbourne on the rack and the stoppage just gave them the breather they needed to steady the ship.
"But we have to eradicate the leaking of soft goals because we can't keep chasing the game - it's hurting us every time we give the opposition a head start."
