"A Fair Result" Says Wilson
Eastbourne Borough manager Garry Wilson was pleased with his team's performance on Saturday and felt a draw was the correct result.
His side took the lead twice in the first half through Paul Armstrong and former U Liam Enver-Marum, but United equalised twice through a Ben Austin own goal and Brian Saah's second goal for the club, two minutes after half-time.
"It was an entertaining game and anyone coming here and paying their money would have been satisfied by what they saw," commented Wilson. "I thought we deserved to be in front at half time but over 90 minutes you have to say the draw was the fair result.
"Cambridge will have gone home thinking they should have nicked it at the end but our goalkeeper made a great save at the death," he added, referring to Robbie Willmott's one-on-one chance with Danny Knowles in stoppage time.
"Had it gone in it would have been hard on our morale. To have conceded then would have been a cruel blow to have lost another game in the last two minutes."
Wilson felt the result showed an improvement in his side since last season, when the U's left with three points after a 3-0 win.
"Over the whole match we applied a lot of effort and played some good football but we have to keep picking up points," he said. "If you look at last year when Cambridge played here we didn't even looked near getting a point, so it shows what a good point it was for us.
"With our league position we need to take three points from a game sooner than later, but against the Cambridges of the world we have to accept that at times a point is the best we can accept. The only negative was conceding goals from set pieces, but all things considered we can take more positives than negatives out of the game.
"I'm pleased with our fitness levels and that we kept trying to take the game to Cambridge right to the end, and that in harsh conditions and against a good side we kept working and that our spirit was good.
"One of the keys in our performance was Liam Marum who was fantastic in the role we asked him to play. He did some great work on his own up there and got a great goal, and when he plays like that we have a chance."
