Courtney Pitt's second goal of the season sparked life into Saturday's match at home to Ebbsfleet United.

A flat first half was meandering to a close when Chris Holroyd crossed the ball for Courtney and he headed it inside the far post, ending the deadlock. The second half was a more entertaining affair and United scored three more goals, two of which Courtney had a hand in.

"It wasn't my first headed goal - I did score one a few years back," he stressed, before revealing that Lee Phillips had predicted the goal: "He said before the game I would score a header at the back post and I thought 'no way', but it happened so I saluted him when I scored.

"Chris did all the work for it though - he broke through, drew the keeper and he couldn't have put the ball any sweeter for me. It hung in the air so the pressure was on but it is harder to miss them than to score. It's all about concentration," he added. "You have to make sure you don't bother about whether they are getting back into place, but where you can put it so they can't stop it."

Pitt agreed that the first half was disappointing and the 'sloppy' U's struggled to break down a determined Fleet side with five in midfield.

"The first goal was the point when the game changed - we didn't start well, and we were lethargic and played some really sloppy football. They competed well, having came with a game plan to spoil and to get a point which they stuck to and it worked well till they fell behind.

"The second half we upped our game and played really well and they never looked like pulling it back, and I think we fully deserved the win on that second half performance alone."

Courtney was brought down in the area for a penalty eight minutes into the second half, which Holroyd converted for his thirteenth goal of the season, and picked out Robbie Willmott to score the third so he was pleased with his contribution.

"It was one of those games that I tried to create as much as I could, and with the penalty and the ball for Robbie's goal I was pleased it came off."

But he reserved his highest praise for Danny Crow, who produced a pinpoint finish at the end after Lee Phillips' volley had cannoned back off the bar: "Danny's goal was something else. To be fair, Lee's effort deserved to cap the win and when it dropped to Danny I was screaming for him to square it, but he couldn't have put it any sweeter into the top corner and he fully deserved it on his level of play and commitment."
