Danny Potter, described as "outstanding" by Martin Ling after his performance against Histon, spoke after the game about the second half turnaround after a disappointing first half.
"We've tried to get over the last two defeats and the first half performance today was below-par again," he admitted. "We were told so by the manager at half-time and we've come out second half and really shown what we can do. I was called upon to make a couple of saves but in the end it was disappointing not to get the win.
"You don't turn into a bad team overnight and we're still the same squad of players that finished two points off promotion last season. It might be a confidence thing and I don't know why confidence should be low - OK, we haven't performed but every team will go through that this season."
The U's keeper continued, "Tuesday night at Grays was certainly unacceptable and the first half today was again below-par, but in the second half we've really shown what we can do. But fair play to Histon because they keep coming at you and they've done it again. Every time we've played here I think they've scored in the last couple of minutes - last time I made a mistake in the last minute - and they did it again today, they just keep coming at you and that's why I think they'll be up there again."
A superb reflex save from Potter against former team-mate Josh Simpson seemed to inspire his team to new heights on the hour, when Dan Gleeson led a breakaway move and Danny Crow had a header tipped round the post then Pitt, Crow, Hatswell and Willmott all had further chances in a dominant spell for United, and the U's number 1 commented, "I think that was a big save and the lads realised that we really needed to push on, and if we didn't we could have lost again.
"I don't think we've lost three games in a row since I've been here and it's not something I want to be involved in, so we've picked up and in the end it's probably a fair result. We needed to get the hangover from Tuesday's result out of the way and we didn't do it in the first half."

Acknowledging Ling's half-time team talk, Potter added, "The manager told us that we were below-par and to take some pride in what we were doing, and the second half is probably the best we've played for a little while. Against Luton we were 2-0 up at half-time and I don't think we played as well as we did here in the second half, so that's something to take into our next game."
Looking ahead to our next game, at home to Ebbsfleet on Saturday, Danny concluded, "This has stopped the losing streak and hopefully we can take three points and start climbing the table again, because it's very tight between where we are now and second place.
"If we'd won today I think we'd have gone up five places, and we're still only four points outside the play-off places so there's a long way to go and when we go on a winning run hopefully the other teams will slump."
