England C Cap for Chris

Posted on: Thu 17 Sep 2009

Chris Holroyd made his England C debut on Tuesday evening in Hungary as Paul Fairclough used the under-23 international to look at new players ahead of the International Challenge Trophy qualifiers, which begin in the Autumn.

In their first game of the new season at the Chris Stadium, Fairclough's men found themselves one-nil down with 26 minutes gone when Srekeres gave the home side the advantage. However, Mansfield Town's Louis Briscoe. levelled four minutes before half-time with a fine strike to ensure England returned home with a creditable draw.

Chris, who impressed the England staff with his manner off the field, started the game and almost scored on his debut in an entertaining, end to end match.

Mike Appleby, Leagues & Clubs Manager for the Football Association, said, "It was by far the best performance by a new group of players since I became involved with the team.

"The Hungarian squad included players from Man City, Newcastle Utd and Liverpool amongst others from across Europe, so this puts the performance and result in a true light. There are some really good young players around the Conference."
