Jai Reason opened his goal tally for the season by restoring the lead at Ebbsfleet on Tuesday, within three minutes of the home side's equaliser.
The midfielder signed a permanent deal with United in the summer after his successful loan from Ipswich last season, and revealed that he has been set the target this season of adding more goals to his game.
"They put a lot of pressure on us in the first half and we did quite well to deal with it," he said, looking back at the game.
"We rode our luck a bit but still pushed on and hit them on the break for Chris Holroyd's goal in the way clubs have done to us at home, so it was nice to do it back to someone for a change.
"We have a good bunch of lads here and the situation off the pitch has made us stronger, so when they got the equaliser early in the second half we rolled up our sleeves and got straight back at them and it paid off with my goal."
Explaining how the squad has dealt with the outside distractions caused by last week's departure of manager and chairman, Jai added, "We've blocked out all the negative stuff in the press and worked hard as a unit in training, especially on getting bodies in the box and it paid off with both goals in the second half.
"Personally I've been given a target to get in the box and show what I'm about and get amongst the goals, and hopefully that goal is just the start. When you've got a player like Robbie Willmott in your team and the opposition is chasing the game like Ebbsfleet were, he will exploit the space with his speed and distribution; he makes it easy for you.
"We were all pleased to get the three points for everyone who, like us, left the game on Saturday disappointed," he concluded.
