Collins: "Cambridge Will Do Well"

Posted on: Thu 13 Aug 2009

Jordan Collins was on the losing side against his former team on Tuesday night but he felt Ebbsfleet can take some positives from the 3-1 defeat.

The left-back came through United's youth scheme and made nine senior appearances before being released at the end of last season, which was spent mainly on loan at Weymouth. He joined Ebbsfleet on a free transfer this summer and was given a torrid time in the second half by former youth and CRC team-mate Robbie Willmott.

"It's never good to lose but I thought we played some good football out there," said the 20-year-old. "Still, the result didn't go our way and we had a poor second half and Cambridge made us pay.

"I felt we dominated the whole of the first half apart from conceding the goal. Pottsy made a great save from Magno (Vieira) when he was clean through, and the low balls into the box had their back four in all kinds of problems.

"We came out for the second half and couldn't have had a better start in scoring the goal, but there is always the danger in switching off and we paid the price. Cambridge showed what good players they have and they managed to turn it around very quickly and the third goal when it came was the killer blow."

Jordan has followed the recent events at the Abbey through the media and friends still at the club, and he feels stability will soon return to the club.

"Cambridge will do well despite all the madness that the team has gone through in the last month or so. I've been reading it from afar and I still have a lot of friends there so I feel for everyone and hope everything is sorted out soon," he said.

"I wish everyone there all the best. There is a lot of young blood in the side this year but there is still the core of the older heads to help them, and once the new manager is in and the stability they need is back they'll be fine."
