Daish: "It Could Have Been Different"

Posted on: Thu 13 Aug 2009

After his Ebbsfleet United side lost 3-1 to Cambridge United on Tuesday night, Liam Daish felt that finishing was the main difference between the two sides.

Chris Holroyd scored twice for United, either side of Jai Reason's second half equaliser, with plenty more chances created by the hard-working U's against a Fleet side assembled quite recently.

"We knew that playing a team like Cambridge we couldn't dominate against them and they would have a spell when they were on top," Daish admitted. "But if we'd have taken a couple of the good chances we had in the first half it would have been very different.

"When we got the equaliser we felt we could have gone on to win it, but it's that time of the season when as a player you can be mentally off it. The lads are getting to know each other as a unit defensively but it is something we will work at and that will get better.

"What pleased me was the quality we showed out there. They all took responsibility on the ball and played some great stuff. It was just having someone to finish the chances off - but that is where the money is at.

"Looking back at the first half, apart from their goal, if we would have come in two up I don't think anyone would have complained. They were quite happy to kick balls out we played with a lot more quality and I think if you looked at chances created we were well on top."

Having been linked in the media with the manager's job at United after Gary Brabin left, and named by former chairman George Rolls as his choice for the post after four interviews, Daish was dismissive of questions on the matter.

"As for George Rolls comments, I'm more interested in talking about my own club than someone else's club. I don't talk about other clubs, other team's players and I don't really give the time of day to people who aren't in football.

"Is George Rolls involved in football anymore? I don't know. So is it worth me commenting? There is nothing to say. I'll talk about my own team; other people's clubs is their business."
