Lee Phillips will not require surgery on his knee ligament injury and could be back in training in five to six weeks.
The striker, who signed a new one-year-deal at the end of the season, tore the medial ligament in his right knee during the match against West Ham on Saturday 18th July.
Follow-ups scans and an appointment with a specialist have confirmed that there is no other damage to the joint and therefore surgery is not required.
"There are no indications for surgical intervention, just conservative treatment of the medial ligament, which is obviously good news for him and for us," confirmed physio Greg Reid.
"He will be subject to continuous evaluation and we'll take it a week at a time, but the prognosis is a lot more encouraging than it was this time last week.
"If he continues to progress at the present rate, then it wouldn't be unrealistic to estimate a period of six weeks from the time of the injury to returning to training."
Defender Anthony Tonkin is still making good progress with the groin injury that has restricted him to the first 22 minutes of pre-season action.
He had an injection into the adductor muscle last week and is now halfway through a fortnight of controlled activity before starting a running programme and then hopefully stepping up his training.
