Chairman George Rolls has already been contacted by many people interested in the managerial post at Cambridge United.

However he confirmed to cambridgeunited.com that player-assistant manager Paul Carden will select the team to play Blackburn Rovers in tonight's friendly and is due to have further talks with the board.

The Board met until late on Monday night and Carden was involved in an extended meeting with directors this morning about the managerial situation.

"We've been inundated by people wanting an interview for the job, but the board will only start the process after having our discussions with Paul Carden," Rolls confirmed.

Gary Brabin was relieved of his duties as manager yesterday (Monday) after weeks of tension culminated in a breakdown in communication between him and the board.

He was appointed as manager on 23rd June 2008 and led United to a second successive runner-up spot in the Blue Square Premier, taking the title chase to the final day of the season and earning another - ultimately disappointing - Play-off Final at  Wembley. Brabin ended his first full season as manager by being named Blue Square Premier Manager of the Season last month.
