New Fans Director Appointed

Posted on: Fri 19 Jun 2009

Colin Proctor has been appointed as the new Fans Director, in succession to Brian Attmore, who stepped down due to business commitments at the end of the season.

Colin's appointment is announced following a recent meeting of Cambridge Fans United's Trust Board. He will hold the post on an interim basis until the Trust's AGM in the New Year, when the fans will have the opportunity to elect a representative for a two-year term.

Making the announcement, CFU Chairman Dave Matthew-Jones said, "Colin is a long-term supporter of the football club and is a tremendous enthusiast for all things Cambridge United. We felt that he would be the right person to represent fans on the Board, until we elect a successor to Brian.

"Times are tough for football clubs, generally, at the moment and we support the Board's stance that the budget must be controlled. Volunteers, like Colin, are vital to help the club through hard times and we look forward to helping the club to maintain progress with the various initiatives which will make it successful.

"We (CFU) are grateful to Brian for the hard work he put in during his time as Fans Elected Director, which included a period as caretaker Chairman of the football club when it was going through Administration. His long-term dedication to Cambridge United has been recognised by his appointment as Associate Director in his own right."

U's Chairman George Rolls commented, "Colin Proctor has been a supporter for over half a century and he has done a lot of good work in and around the club for the Vice-Presidents Club and CFU. He is retired now so he can offer his time on a daily basis at the club and I am sure he will do a good job."

Confirming Brian Attmore's appointment as an Associate Director, he added, "Brian will be a hard act for Colin to follow. The Board of Directors thank him for all of his efforts during his tenure and asked him to become an Associate Director in recognition of the good work he has done, particularly in the community aspects of the club like United in Learning, Football in the Community and Youth Development.

"Brian will continue to attend board meetings and work with United in Learning, Football in the Community and Youth Development."
