Darryl Coakley is the fourth of United's second year scholars to earn a professional contract with the club.
Left-back Darryl is from Bury St Edmunds and he joined our youth scheme at the age of 16 from Ipswich Town. He will be aiming to push on and make the most of the opportunity, along with fellow first year professionals Sam Ives, Adam Marriott and Jordan Patrick.
United's Director of Youth Football, Jez George, told cambridgeunited.com, "After a disappointing first year, Darryl had a good game against Colchester in the FA Youth Cup and since then he's gone on to nail down a place in the CRC side.
"He has a fantastic left foot, a great attitude, and he deserves this opportunity to see if he can push on further."
Jez added, "It's now ten players who have signed pro contracts in our three years at the club, and they're all quite local lads too, which is nice for the club."
The four new scholars will train primarily with the first team from pre-season onwards, and will also take part in a couple of extra sessions each week as a development group of younger professionals and scholars to work on their individual progress.
"That's not to say that the first team don't do that, but the first team environment is geared to winning on Saturday and sometimes you have to make sure that the younger players still get the individual work that they need to develop as players," Jez explained.
