Lee Phillips Puts Pen to Paper

Posted on: Sat 23 May 2009

Lee Phillips has extended his stay at Cambridge United by signing a new one year contract.

The 28-year-old striker joined at the beginning of March on a free transfer from troubled Weymouth, making an immediate debut at Histon and going on to score twice in five starts and three appearances from the bench.

A strong, bustling striker who links well with his team-mates, Phillips' goals were the equaliser at home to Eastbourne, setting up a 2-1 home win, and United's only goal in the play-off semi-final at Stevenage.

Chairman George Rolls told cambridgeunited.com, "We're delighted that Lee has decided to commit his immediate future to us.

"He's a good player and he's done well in his time here, especially in the last few games. There were other clubs interested in him but it reflects well on Cambridge United and the people here that he chose to sign a new deal with us.

"We're working to get all contract matters sorted out as soon as possible and Lee staying with us is good news for everyone."

Midfielder Jai Reason has been offered a contract to make his loan into a permanent move after being released by Ipswich Town.

However first team coach Stuart Bimson's contract will not be renewed and he leaves the club with thanks for his work this season and best wishes for his future career.
