Scott Rendell netted twice in Monday's magnificent 3-0 home win against Stevenage Borough and is delighted that the U's have booked a place at Wembley in the Play-off Final.
Having lost 3-1 at the Lamex Stadium on Thursday, the U's had it all to do but a second half strike from Robbie Willmott and two from Rendell - the second in the final minute of extra time - fired United into the final and a date with Torquay United on the 17th.
"We knew we could do it and we knew we would have to bide our time to break them down," said Rendell.
"I've had a frustrating time in the last two games so to get those two goals was great, not only for the club but for me also. For the first goal, it's becoming my trademark to nip in before the defender in the six-yard box.
"As for the second, I knew Cardy was going to have a shot; he was bursting to throughout the extra time and it's always a striker's job to be following up, so when the keeper parried it I knew I had to be first to it. It doesn't matter how tired you are, you have to keep going. And that is not just me it also applies to the whole team and what we've achieved this season."
The delighted 22-year-old added, "People had us written off before we'd kicked a ball today, everybody apart from people around this club. We were the only ones that thought we could do it and we've proved them wrong.
"In and around this club we have the belief that we can go all the way and we've shown that today. This is the club's second chance following last year's disappointment, and we know we have to put that right.
"That is our sole aim come the final whistle at Wembley."
