Sidelined by a knee injury since the second week of the season, Andy Parkinson has returned to fitness just in time for the season's run in and the winger is feeling stronger and fitter every week.

After three games alongside the scholars for CRC, Parky had a five minute cameo appearances against Burton and Saturday and almost scored with a fizzing drive that forced the keeper to tip it over, and on Tuesday he went on for the last 20 minutes after Chris Holroyd came off with blood streaming from his nose.

"I enjoyed the longer run out on Tuesday," said the 30-year-old former Tranmere and Grimsby winger. "I felt good, I felt fit, nearly scored again but had that one blocked on the line unfortunately. I'm feeling better every week and just looking to get more minutes on the pitch.

"To be fair the lads have done really well without me, and to come back now towards the end of the season I hope I can add something to the squad that can take us over the line."

Acknowledging that there is fierce competition for places throughout the squad, he added, "That can only be good for the club because we all want to play a part out there and are all gutted if we're not in that first eleven. The manager has brought quality to the club and this will stand us in good stead, not just this season but hopefully for next season if we can get in the League.

"The play-offs are a lottery; I've been there before so there's nothing guaranteed, and if Burton let it slip we want to be there and ready. But at the moment it's down to us to guarantee we are in the play-offs and then it's on to the next hurdle."
