Willmott Will Get Better

Posted on: Wed 11 Mar 2009

Gary Brabin has spoken highly of Robbie Willmott's recent performances, and urged the 18-year-old to maintain his progress.

In the absence of Andy Parkinson, Robbie has flourished on the right of midfield this season and the manager is pleased with the way the Bishops Stortford youngster has worked hard on his game.

"Robbie has done well this season but I keep telling him he can't take his foot off the gas and he's got to push on," he told cambridgeunited.com

"Looking over his shoulder and seeing Andy Parkinson coming back has maybe pushed him on a little bit more."

On Saturday Robbie scored the nerves-settling second goal against Burton, advancing one-on-one with veteran keeper Kevin Poole and beating him with a clinical finish, and in last night's win against Mansfield he delivered a beautifully-flighted cross for Scott Rendell to score United's equalising first goal.

Calling for the youngster to maintain those standards and keep improving, the gaffer added, "He's worked really hard and he's still far from the finished article, but if he keeps listening and working hard he's got a bright future ahead of him."
