Cambridge United player/assistant manager Paul Carden has won the Blue Square Premier 'Player of the Month' award for February.

Carden played his part in the U's play-off chase as they won four matches and drew one. Carden was also the other half of a Cambridge management duo that also took the honours in the manager category, with Gary Brabin claiming that award yesterday.

In addition, Carden was also voted the winner of Setanta's Goal of the Month competition for his long range goal in the home match with Oxford at the end of January, making it a winter treble for the U's.

In the Blue Square South the award goes to Phil Ruggles of Basingstoke Town. Ruggles scored three vital goals to help his side climb out of the relegation zone. His first coming in an inspired fight-back away at Bognor when his equalising goal as a second-half substitute put Stoke on their way to an unlikely three points.

Danny Carey-Bertram from AFC Telford United has won the award in the Blue Square North. The former Cambridge United and Hereford player scored three goals during the month as Telford kept up their title fight in the Blue Square North. Telford are also fighting on both non-league cup fronts and Carey-Bertram also found the net in a Trophy match at home to Southport.
