Courtney Pitt scored Saturday's equaliser against Crawley Town with a superbly-taken free kick, but afterwards described the 1-1 draw as a 'disappointment'.

The visitors took the lead in the first half when Jon Shaw judged the flight of a cross better than Danny Potter and headed the ball home for what Gary Brabin called "a silly goal"', while Pitt curled a free kick into the far corner in the 82nd minute after Wayne Hatswell was hauled down just outside the area.

"We are disappointed in how we played in the first half, and yes the result is a disappointment because we feel we are good enough to win every home game," said Courtney afterwards.

"We were a lot better in the second half though. The gaffer made changes and brought me and Robbie on to get the ball out wide and get at them a lot more and I felt we did that. In the first half Crawley did well, playing to their strengths and getting their noses in front, and they did well defending that lead. But it's up to us to break them down and we did that."

The winger revealed that he was always sure that United would equalise, and practice in training paid off with his strike for his second goal of the season.

"As the game went on, the next goal was only going to come from us," he said. "Once we got the free kick I fancied myself to get it in, as I always do with something in that area. It's something I work on in training, as I have for most of my career."

United make the short journey to Histon for Monday's match and Courtney concluded, "The way Crawley fought for their point, and particularly the physical nature, will stand us in good stead for Monday's derby game. That's how some teams play in this league and we will have to stand up to it.

"We've already won at their place and will do everything we can to compete with them and then use our ability and team spirit and to bring the points back."
