Cambridge United parted company with defender Gavin Hoyte and winger Felino Jardim today and Gary Brabin has explained that he did not want to stand in the way of either player.

Hoyte, who has not played for United this season, and Jardim, who has only played once this year, were released today by mutual consent. The players are now free agents and can join new clubs even after the transfer window closes at 5pm today.

Explaining the decisions to cambridgeunited.com this afternoon, Brabin said, "Gavin is behind Wayne Hatswell, who has been immense for us this season, and he hasn't figured in our plans this season.

"He's been an absolute pleasure to work with and I thought he might have kicked on a bit by stepping into full-time football, but we just wanted a bit more from him that we weren't to get."

And on Dutchman Jardim, who joined at the start of the season, he commented, "Felino is another young player who was like a breath of fresh air when he first came to the club. He's a good player and he will get better but he wants to play week in, week out, and I couldn't guarantee that.

"We've had a few discussions over the last few weeks and I wanted a bit more consistency from him, and I didn't want to stand in his way when he told me he needed to play all the time.

"I wanted more from Felino, as I do from all my wide men, and with Courtney coming back from his injury and getting fitter and stronger all the time, I could see Felino falling that bit further behind in the pecking order.

"I wish them both the best in the future and thank them for what they've done while they've been here."

The U's manager added that any additions to the squad will be loans after the loan window re-opens a week after the transfer deadline.

"We made a few tongue-in-cheek enquiries for people but it gets daft in this window and I didn't want to caught in the rat race," he confirmed.

"The last few days have been ridiculous with the sort of money people are talking about and we didn't want to get caught up in that. The loan window is open again in a week and if anybody comes in it will be a loan as and when we need someone."
