Defender Leaves U's

Posted on: Mon 02 Feb 2009

Gavin Hoyte has left Cambridge United on January transfer deadline day.

The 22-year-old defender's contract was due to expire in June and he was released today by mutual consent. He is now a free agent and can sign for another club even after the window closes later today.

Hoyte was signed by former manager Jimmy Quinn in June 2007 from Bedford Town after they were relegated from the Conference South, and he scored on his debut in the first game of the season, a 2-1 win at York.

He made a dozen first team starts before a loan spell at Hinckley United last January, then finished the season on loan to Southern League champions King's Lynn to gain more first team experience.

This season he spent three months on loan at Halesowen, and has not featured for Cambridge United.

Everyone at Cambridge United wishes him good luck in his future career.
