Scott Rendell admitted it was a pleasant surprise to learn on Monday that a deal had been agreed for him to return to Cambridge United for the rest of the season.
The former U's striker re-joined the U's in November for a successful loan spell in which he scored seven times, but an initial bid to extend his loan to the end of the season broke down due to the cost and he returned to Peterborough. But yesterday, twelve days after it looked as though Rendell had played his last game for United, the board agreed and underwrote a new deal to make his return a reality.
"It's great to be back and have it all sorted out," he told cambridgeunited.com
"Yesterday was a strange day because I was doing a radio interview and they asked me if the deal was dead and I said I hadn't heard anything and I didn't think anything was going to happen now. Then I got back from training and found out a deal had been agreed between the two clubs!
"I was involved with the Peterborough squad at the weekend but the manager told me it would be best for me to go out on loan again, and it's good to be back and know what I'm doing for the rest of the season. Hopefully I can carry on where I left off."
There was no shortage of interest from other clubs after his loan spell with United, but Scott confirmed that he turned down temporary moves to other clubs: "There were clubs in League Two and the Conference but, as I've said before, if I have to leave Peterborough then the only club I'm interested in is to come back on loan to Cambridge."
Delighted to have his short-term future decided, Scott is now relishing the opportunity to help United's promotion challenge for the rest of the season and he added, "I'm glad it's all sorted and I can concentrate on my football, and hopefully I can score some goals and it will be a happy end to the season.

"It was a fantastic result against Woking at the weekend and I won't expect to walk straight back into the side. All three strikers - Crowy and Bees and Chrissy (Holroyd) - played really well so it's good competition for places, which is always good and it's what you need.
"I've got to get my head down and train well and hopefully I can take my chance again."
