Scott Rendell's loan will not be extended to the end of the season due to Cambridge United being unable to meet Peterborough United's financial demands.

The League One club had agreed on December 28th that the striker could stay at the Trade Recruitment Stadium for the rest of the season. However, after careful consideration, their demands of a £25,000 loan fee, a £25,000 promotion bonus and all of his wages for the duration of the loan have effectively put the cost of the loan out of United's financial reach.

Director George Rolls said, "The total is clearly a substantial amount of money and we're not in a position to meet those demands, so regrettably Scott will be returning to Peterborough with immediate effect.

"We would dearly have loved to have kept Scott at the club, but we cannot jeopardise the financial stability of the Football Club."

Rendell returned to Cambridge on loan in November and scored seven goals in the nine games of his loan - five in the league and two in the FA Trophy win at Histon - and Rolls expressed the appreciation of everyone connected with the club.

"I would like to personally thank Scott on behalf of everybody at the club for the positive attitude he has shown since his return to the club. We wish him well when he returns to Peterborough, where I hope he can break through into the first team. "
