Farrell To Miss Two Games

Posted on: Mon 17 Nov 2008

Ben Farrell will be suspended for our next two games following his controversial dismissal in Saturday's eventful 2-2 draw at Crawley.

Booked in the first half for a 50/50 challenge with Sam Rents - who was later red-carded for a high challenge on Jon Challinor - Farrell was booked again in the 76th minute after he was brought down in the area.

Like the United supporters, who thought play might have been stopped to award a penalty, Farrell was astonished to be shown another yellow card, this time for 'diving', and then the red.

"The first booking I had, I won the ball," the incredulous midfielder commented afterwards.

"The second booking was not a dive or a penalty but a good challenge on me. I got up to carry on but the ref told me 'it was a dive, so it is a second bookable offence and therefore I have to send you off'."

There is no opportunity to appeal and, because it was his second dismissal of the season, Ben will miss the next two matches against York City and Altrincham. However Paul Carden and Phil Bolland return from suspension and will be available again on Tuesday, when the U's are at home to York City (7.45pm).
