Team News

Ben Farrell misses the last game of his three-match suspension tomorrow while youngster Rory McAuley commences a similar ban after his sending-off deep in stoppage time on Tuesday. Dan Gleeson will be sidelined for another 2-3 weeks with a medial ligament (knee) injury and McAuley's suspension leaves Gary Brabin without a recognised right back, so Josh Coulson could be pressed into service in that position.

However Felino Jardim trained yesterday and the winger is expected to be available for selection after recovering from an ankle injury, and Brabin is hopeful that influential defender Phil Bolland will continue to shake off the effects of tonsillitis

"We've got couple of people with minor knocks from Tuesday and a couple who didn't train on Thursday but they should be OK," confirmed Brabin.

"Felino being injured was probably a blessing in disguise for him because he's played more games than I'd have liked. It's been a bit of a culture shock for him over here, he's been kicked from the first minute the season started and it's no coincidence that I think there's been three right backs sent off against him this season.

"Ideally I'd like to have been looking after the likes of Felino and some of the younger lads in terms of when and when not to play them, and circumstances mean a few of them have been thrown in at the deep end and that's not fair on the lads. But Felino has had a few days' rest and I think he's ready and raring to go again."

Danny Brown was included in a squad for the first time this season on Tuesday, and although he has only just been cleared to resume training following a shoulder operation, Brabin said his presence gave the squad a boost.

"I had to put him and Mark Convery on the bench because we needed bodies, even though they're not 100%, but Browny was just made up to be back. He was itching to get on and I want that attitude around the place so it's a big plus, but we've got to be sensible. He's kept himself reasonably fit and got the all-clear from the specialist to step up his training a lot earlier than we anticipated, but it's still early."

Brabin refused to confirm whether Coulson would deputise at right back, saying, "Rory made a great debut on Tuesday, although it was a naive tackle to get sent off, but I'm gutted he's not available. It gives us a dilemma and we've worked on a few things and juggled things round a bit and see how it looks for Saturday.

"I've got a lot of options but I just want to see how some people are after missing training, so it's too early to decide on the team yet but everyone has trained well and looked bright."

The Opposition

Wrexham were relegated from the Football League last season and Brabin believes they will provide a benchmark of United's standard.

"I think it'll be a tough match between two big clubs; no disrespect to any of the teams in this league but "Cambridge United versus Wrexham" sounds like a proper League clash to me and a good advertisement for this league.

"They're two big clubs who should be at a higher level but they've been unfortunate over the last few years and I think it will be a good game. They have expectations at Wrexham, like ourselves, but I think they've realised that everyone is taking points off everyone else so I think it will be a great game and hopefully we'll get a good result.

"Wrexham have some good players and a couple of players I like; they're comfortable on the ball and they have a big, strong back four, wide men who work hard, players with good quality, so they're not one-dimensional," he added. "They have a little bit of everything - a bit like ourselves - and they won't be coming here to put men behind the ball."
