Another academic year is complete at the Cambridge United Learning Centre 'United in Learning' and the centre has had a very busy but productive year.

Over 350 students have come into or used the facilities or received teaching as a result of the teaching programme. 300 of those have participated on regular basis with three hours of extra study support time each week for a 5/6 week period as part of the centre's Playing for Success sessions.

Our new annual report can be accessed in PDF format from the following link [report] but as a summary here are some of the initiatives we have been involved in:

  • Official centre opening took place in November 2007
  • The centre achieved the Quality in Study Support award in May
  • Poster competition as part of the Kick racism out of football week
  • Upwards of 6 mentors showing regular commitment on a voluntary basis helping out in sessions
  • Celebrations and a centre swap as part of the ten year anniversary of Playing for Success
  • Sponsorship from Ridgeons allowing us to purchase fruit and ICT resources
  • At least 12 of last teams squad involved in student interviews

As for the future, next year promises to be busier than ever with more exciting times anticipated:

  • An additional member of staff will be working three days a week to enhance the delivery of the Playing for Success programme and also to develop our daytime provision
  • The Centre aims to do some follow-up sessions with various schools back in school
  • Saturday sessions and holiday programmes also hopefully to be developed

The Centre is always looking to hear from prospective schools, sponsors and mentors. If anyone would like further information about the work we do then do not hesitate to contact us
