Gary Brabin believes Andy Parkinson was having as much impact off the pitch as on it, before he damaged knee ligaments in training on Monday. The winger now looks likely to miss the rest of this season and Brabin admitted it is a big blow to the team.
"I'm gutted to lose him - first of all as a person, because he's a very genuine person who has really worked hard this pre-season, and he's moving down here in a couple of weeks and I'm gutted for him as a lad.
"But also as a manager I'm losing him on a Saturday, which is a big blow, and also every day working with him in training where he's a fantastic example of the standards that we want to keep in training," Brabin told cambridgeunited.com
The 29-year-old joined United on a free transfer in July after leaving Notts County, and he has previously played for Tranmere - including a League Cup final at Wembley - Sheffield United and Grimsby.
"Everyone looks up to Andy - he's been there, seen it and done it, and if you see his attitude every day in training he's unbelievable so I think we're going to miss him there too, setting the example and setting the standards," added the manager.
Parky, who announced his arrival to the home fans with two fantastic strikes against Everton in the pre-season friendly, is due to have surgery on his knee in 10-14 days and we will keep you up to date with his progress.
