Swansea Striker Joins On Loan
Cambridge United have completed the second signing of the day with the signature of Swansea striker Chris Jones. The 19-year-old has joined Cambridge United on loan to January 1st.
A pacy, exciting forward who plays up front or on the wings, Jones has made nine first team appearances for the Swans and is a Wales Under-21 international.
As a trainee he turned down Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers to turn professional with his local club, and this week in the face of interest from Football League clubs he opted for a five-month loan spell with Cambridge United.
Manager Gary Brabin told the official website why he has signed Chris Jones: "He's an exciting young forward prospect and he's someone I've watched. I have a good relationship with the management at Swansea and I know they have high expectations of him, and we're lucky enough to get him here on loan until the New Year.
"He's quick with good feet, he scores goals and he can play as a centre forward or out wide on either flank. Swansea have a real asset on their hands and if he comes here and fulfils his potential, which me and Paul (Carden) will be helping him to do 100%, it will do his career a world of good.
Jones has attracted interest from Football League clubs who wanted him on loan but he has decided to join Cambridge United and, subject to international clearance, he will be eligible to make his debut at Northwich Victoria in the season's opening game on Saturday.
Jones has been allocated squad number 19.
