Andy Parkinson became Gary Brabin's second signing for Cambridge United yesterday, dropping out of the Football League for the first time in his career but determined to help the U's get promoted back to League Two.
A pacy 29-year-old winger who can also play up front or 'in the hole' behind strikers, and hailed as one of his top transfer targets by Gary Brabin, 'Parky' is looking forward to the fresh challenge and has signed a two-year contract.
"I've played nearly 400 games at league clubs so I'm only 29 but I've got lots of experience," he told cambridgeunited.com
"I've played all my football so far in the Championship and League 1 and 2 so it's a step down to play in the Conference, but hopefully it's not for too long and we'll be going back up to League Two."
Explaining why he chose Cambridge United, the former Liverpool youth team mate of Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher said, "One of the main reasons I've joined is because I know the management team and I trust them.
"They're good football people and they've had nothing but good things to say about the football club and what they want to do here."
Introduced by his new manager as a versatile forward who can play on either flank or up front, Parkinson agreed: "I started out as a striker but I can play wide on either side or as an attacking midfielder in the hole.
"During my career various managers have used me in different positions to fill in gaps in the teams and I'm happy to play in any position as long as I'm playing, but my favourite position is probably up front.
"Now I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the lads and getting started."
