"Your Turn Next" Tisdale Tells U's

Posted on: Tue 20 May 2008

Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale was gracious in victory after Sunday's Play-off Final win and urged everyone connected with Cambridge United to stay positive for next season.

Tisdale's side lost in the same competition finale at Wembley to Morecambe last year and commented, "I was told after last year that no beaten team in the play-off final had gone on to make the play-offs the following year, so that was our first target and we've proved that not only can it be done but that you can go on and win it.

"We've shown what can be done over a season with a balanced team. It's a team that is totally flexible in its ability to deal with whatever the opposition, and I feel we showed that against you.

"We weren't perfect today and arguably you could've nicked one at the end when you got the ball in our box, and it shows that to be successful you have to ride your luck."

Urging everyone to stay positive despite the disappointment of Sunday's 1-0 defeat, Tisdale added, "Having been in Jimmy's shoes this time last year I give this message to the Cambridge fans: Believe in your team and believe in the manager.

"We had an edgy start to this season when we drew too many games and it would have been very easy for people to forget all the hard work that has been done to get to this game, but our fans stayed with the team and my staff.

"And although now it feels like you are in a game of snakes and ladders and you've been shot back to square zero, you just have believe what a good side Jimmy has at your club and you have to trust him to improve on that team, as I'm sure he will. I'm sure then you will be able to go one step further as we have.

"Have trust in your manager, trust in the players and keep up your magnificent support and hopefully it will be your turn next year."
