Striker Magno Vieira scored the first two goals of his loan from Crawley Town on the day the loan was due to expire, and today his stay at the Abbey Stadium is being extended.
The pacy Brazilian scored a goal in either half at Northwich to secure the win and second place in the table for United, and said afterwards, "Hopefully I would like this not to have been my last game for Cambridge.
"We haven't completed the job here and I would like to be part of the side to do that. I will have to speak to Crawley's manager and Jimmy to see what can be done though."
We can now confirm that his loan from Crawley is being extended until Sunday 18th May, so should we reach the play-off final he will be eligible to play.
Magno's first club in England was Wigan Athletic but he made his first league appearances at Carlisle United, and the 23-year-old added, "I was a part of the team at Carlisle who came up through the play-offs and there are great similarities between the two clubs.
"You see how Carlisle are challenging for a play in the Championship now, and with the support we have here we are capable of matching what they have done, especially if we can carry the momentum we have now onwards."
Vieira concluded, "I've worked really hard in training and I was disappointed that it has taken me so long to show the fans what I can do.
"For the first goal and the long ball through, Willy Wordsworth has been telling me to work the last defender with my pace, keeping just on his shoulder until the ball is played, and I stripped the ball from him and placed it home. It's nice when things you work on happen on a match day.

"The second (above) was a rarity as I don't normally score with my left foot and as well as being a tight angle I was really pleased with it. Hopefully it will not be my last Cambridge goal!"
Manager Jimmy Quinn is pleased to secure the loan extension and told cambridgeunited.com, "Magno was probably our best player on Saturday. He ran the channels well and held the ball up and looked a threat.
"He'd been struggling to get a goal since he arrived but you could see the confidence coming back when he got the first one. He took his goals very well and he used his pace to good effect; at times he was giving their players three or four yards and still getting to the ball first."
