McEvilly Hails Team Performance

Posted on: Wed 23 Apr 2008

Lee McEvilly made his comeback from an ankle injury in Tuesday's win against Torquay when he replaced the injured Lee Boylan at half-time.

Declaring himself pleased with the performance and issuing a rallying cry for the play-offs, the burly striker commented, "Torquay are a good team but I thought we were well worth the win.

"It was a great team performance - the whole team did everything asked; another clean sheet from Potts and the lads at the back, and Mark took his goals well. It's good to get the previous couple of home games out of the system with this win."

It was Lee's first game for five weeks and he admitted he was pleased to manage 45 minutes so soon after resuming full training: "My foot feels fine. It's understandable that I feel nervous about it because it was a serious injury and I've jumped a few hurdles to get here.

"I wasn't expecting a full half tonight. I've only had a day's full training and I was only expecting a run out for the last ten minutes, but obviously Lee had to come off so I did what was asked and hopefully I didn't let anyone down."

With a play-off place now secured, McEvilly wants the U's to finish as high as possible and stated, "Look at our record against the top clubs - we don't fear anyone.

"We're in third place now and it's important we get that third place nailed down with a win at Northwich so we're at home in the second leg of the play-offs."
